There are many things that can contribute to fecal incontinence:
- Diseases such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis and colorectal disease¹
- Trauma to the anal and/or rectal area¹
- A birth defect, altered stool consistency or abnormal rectal capacity¹
- Damage to the nerves of the pelvic floor¹
