The Procedure

Placement of the UroLume® stent within the urethral canal is a minimally invasive procedure. In most cases, it can be performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia.

Before the procedure, your doctor will give you a thorough explanation of what will happen during your surgery and how to prepare for it. Your doctor also will explain the procedure in more detail and describe the associated risks.

Using a special delivery tool designed for the UroLume, the physician is able to place the stent within the urethral canal. Placement of the stent usually requires only 10-30 minutes. Because the procedure is relatively short and painless, most patients are able to return to normal activities the same day (excluding some strenuous physical activity).

What to Expect After the Procedure
Placement of the UroLume is a minimally invasive procedure in which no tissue is removed. Therefore, more patients recover rapidly. Upon placement of the UroLume, the urethral walls will be held open, providing immediate improvement in the flow of urine. As a precaution against displacement of the stent, your physician may recommend that some strenuous activities be avoided for the first few weeks. Ask your doctor for personal instructions.
