AMS Ambicor® 2-Piece Inflatable Penile Prosthesis
The AMS Ambicor is a uniquely designed two-piece inflatable prosthesis consisting of a pair of cylinders implanted in the corpora cavernosa and a single pump bulb implanted in the scrotum. Patients simply squeeze the pump to inflate and bend the penis to deflate the prosthesis. This closed, fluid-filled system allows for good rigidity and partial flaccidity.
Advantages for Physicians
- Completely pre-filled and pre-connected for surgical simplicity
- Narrow snap-cone rear extenders for accurate intraoperative sizing
- 2-piece design—no need to implant a separate reservoir
- Available in 12.5 mm, 14 mm and 15.5 mm diameters for better patient fit
- Opportunity for outpatient implantation
- Does not require any abdominal incisions
Advantages for Patients
- Small inflation pump provides comfort and ease of use
- Requires fewer squeezes of the pump for full inflation than a 3-piece prosthesis
- Easier to conceal than a malleable prosthesis
- Fast and easy one-step deflation
Device Mechanics
The AMS Ambicor is a closed, fluid-filled system that allows for good rigidity and partial flaccidity. It consists of two cylinders and a pump bulb. The fluid is stored in the reservoirs at the proximal end of the cylinders.
The AMS Ambicor consists of these parts:
- Cylinders
- Pump
- Reservoir integrated into cylinder
- PTFE tubing sleeve
- Tubing
- Inflation chamber
- Deflation chamber
The soft, flexible AMS Ambicor cylinders are available in three diameter widths and a variety of lengths to accommodate most patients.
When surgery is performed, a full range of sizes should be available in the operating room so you can choose the appropriate length and diameter to best fit your patient.
To enable flexible sizing, the AMS Ambicor kit includes eight rear tip extenders that allow physicians to specifically tailor the length of the prosthesis.
