The UroLume®
Urethral Stent is placed transurethrally in an outpatient
setting—usually within 10 to 30 minutes. The stent is a biocompatible
super alloy mesh tube that self-expands, holding the urethra open at the
point of obstruction. Each stent is packaged preloaded in a specially
designed delivery system that includes an optical telescope stabilizer.
For bulbar urethral stricture, the stent is placed in the bulbar urethra.
- Stricture must be completely covered to prevent recurrence of stricture formation.
- The stent should not be placed into penoscrotal junction, which causes patient discomfort.
- To prevent patient incontinence, do not place the stent within 1.0 cm of the external sphincter.
