The Procedure

The PerigeeTM procedure is an in-patient procedure typically performed under general anesthesia.

Your doctor will perform the surgery vaginally, meaning an incision will be made through your vagina rather than in your abdomen. Small needles are passed through the tissue on either side of your labia to the incision in your vagina.

In general, the Perigee procedure involves the following steps. (Your doctor's method may vary slightly from this one.)

  1. An incision is made in the anterior vaginal wall.
  2. Tissue between the vagina and bladder is separated.
  3. Two needles are passed on either side of your labia and transport the mesh to the desired location.
  4. The mesh is secured under the bladder.
  5. The incision is closed.

What to Expect After the Procedure
Your doctor will likely require you to stay in the hospital overnight. Also, your doctor may insert a catheter through your urethra to drain urine from your bladder. You may be prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection and analgesics (pain medicine) for any post-operative discomfort.

During the healing period, you should avoid sexual intercourse, heavy lifting and rigorous exercise. Your doctor will advise you on how long you will need to wait. Your doctor should provide you with additional information on how to care for yourself after surgery, including any other limitations to activities.
